e_is_hv
Hi all, just a quick question. If one goes into IM, and then does a fellowship, say nephrology, does that you have to write the IM licensing exam, and then an ADDITIONAL nephrology licensing exam at the end of PGY 5? Thanks! Really appreciate it
A-Stark
You write Royal College *Certification* exams, not licensing exams (that's only LMCC parts 1 & 2). You'd typically sit both the IM and nephro exams in that situation, yes.
NLengr
Depends on the fellowship I believe. I think all the IM ones have one. Surgical fellowships, I'm not too sure.
Maxime
Surgery has a core exam after 2nd year with the Royal College (I learned this as I am filling out my info for IM exam). They do this exam, and the exam at the end of their residency. For medicine, if you go into, say cardiology, you will have the internal medicine Royal College exam during R4, and the cardiology royal college exam during R6. If you do general internal medicine, only one exam. If you do microbiology-infectiology, then you have 3 royal college exams (ouch!). As for fellowship, no examination what so ever with the Royal College. Might have some tests with the institution where you're training though, will find out about that later on. tomato7
How about if you do an R4 GIM fellowship. When do you have to take the board exam? Beginning or end of 4th year or end of 3rd year?
Maxime
Can't do it 3rd year, it's done during spring of R4 (near the end). Maxime
