Medical Officers in the CF

I know we've had discussions on practising medicine in the military. The draw back for me is that they make you do a family medicine residency after med school. You can then go on to pursue surgery, psych etc. However, I can't find any info on what happens if you apply after residency. For example, what if you went through med school, did a surgery residency as a civilian and then applied. Would you be able to skip the family medicine step?

Thanks. The big draw back for me if I joined in med is the manditory family medicine residency. To specialize, you have to compete in cARMS, but it's the second round. That is worrisome to me, especially since I don't think I'd be satisfied with family if I couldn't match to something else.
