I'm doing a Bachelor of Science, and have just learned about summer courses that I can take. I'd just like to know if medical schools (UBC in particular) count summer schools towards my prereqs and GPA. I want to finish my degree in 3 years and be a 25 yr old doctor :D

Anyhow, simply put...will taking summer courses hurt my application?

Thanks in advance :)

Hi there,

Yes, UBC does (or at least did :) ) consider summer courses when calculating your academic score. If they are using the same academic assessment scheme as in previous years then your summer course marks will impact your overall GPA and last 60 credit calculations. Additionally, if any of these summer courses constitute your first stab at any of the prerequisites, then the marks you receive in those courses will be reflected in the prerequisite GPA calculation.

Cheers,

Kirsteen
