Hope_MD
How many of you are applying without any research experience? I am honestly having a very hard time getting a research oppurtunity and I want to apply by next year. I was wondering if this would have a big influence on my chances. deathvvv
Applying without research won't kill you. As long as you have good stats (3.7+, 32+) and other great extra-curriculars. You are probably out of the running for research heavy top tier med schools though (ie. Harvard, Hopkins)
Slashsev
no one cares about research in the thick of things
thegame11
I had lots of research stuff. I don't think it was really weighted as heavily as I would have liked. Excellent clinical experience can partially make up for lack of research...
deathvvv
research generally will work in your favor ONCE you make the average/MCAT screens. If you are hovering around the average accepted GPA/MCAT for the school, research can definitely get you in. But don't expect your summer poster presentation to help you if you are applying with a 3.3/28 to Harvard let say. Although high profile journal pubs (ie. science/nature) can really help you in the process.
