Canada's new copyright law: Bill C-11

So apparently new bill C-11, the modernization of Canada's copyright law has been passed by the house, on it's way to quickly become law within the week.

Apparently people can't play music at weddings and other events unless pay a hefty licensing fee for each music. Oh and you can't break DRM on an Apple ebook you bought to transfer it to your kindle.

What do you think about it?

Lets be honest here. The money is not for the artists themselves. Its for their record labels. Depending on the artist's contract they may see little to none of the money from this stupid bill. This is just another extension of control over Canadians. We're not very good at defending our liberty TBH.

song writers are not Monsanto.

This isn't just about song writers. Like deeman mentioned its about civil liberties. As you can see in the news the trend right now is slowly but surely one by one our liberty is slowly being taken away. We gotta give resistance when we can. If we don't next thing you know it we will be living under tyranny.

The new law isn't going to change anything.

So what if it's illegal to play certain music at a wedding? Nobody will know whether you've paid your dues, or if you're just playing satalite radio or youtube videos. So what if it's illegal to break digital locks on media? This has been illegal in the US since the DMCA and it hasn't stopped anybody. It's an unenforcable law.

The law is a futile attempt to defer the inevitable death of the recording industry.
