sarakj
Hi there, Does anyone have any info about how the job market is for people who are dual certificate ( Rads/Nucs)? Also is the pay much lower than radiology? I can not find a figure to give me Nucs average salary.. thanks Sarakj
Lactic Folly
That's probably because it's such a small field. It would depend on the particular setup of the position - i.e. are you part of a radiology group doing both rads and nucs..
sarakj
No , I'm in rads and thinking of doing Nucs for my fellowship and have to make a decision sooner than later.. I like the fact that there is no call for Nucs but if the pay is way lower than rads I will do sth else with less call like MsK.. Any info would be great.. You can PM me if more comfortable.. Thanks a lot
Lactic Folly
I meant whether that was the type of practice you envisioned joining in the future. In radiology, I don't think one can expect to practice or take call solely in their subspecialty unless in a large academic centre. Over time, such a career path would also make one less able to switch to a position requiring skills in other areas, unless they were maintained through locums. Pay would depend on how your group functions - whether all partners earn the same amount, or whether individuals take home what they bill, or some other model. Suggest speaking to your local nucs people, keeping in mind that there is variation in how departments are set up across the country.
