Loot
Anyone know how many interview invites each school sends out? I've heard UofT interviews loads of people. Any clue about the other schools?
A-Stark
UofT and Western seem to interview just about everyone; pretty much everywhere else is more selective, but it's apparently only a more recent thing due to increased applicants. Ten years ago anesthesia wasn't as popular for whatever reason, and one staff I worked with applied after the application deadlines while doing her first anesthesia rotation, asked to be ranked, and matched. lychee
Thanks for this thread -- great for planning the upcoming year! I'd be interested in knowing selectivity for interviews at Calgary and the UofA if anyone has insight. Happy Thanksgiving!
HBP
Anyone know about whether doing an Ottawa anesthesia elective post carms application (pre-interviews though), would hinder my chances at interviewing there?
KennethToronto
I haven't counted the number of interviewees on my sheet, but it seems like UofT is being more selective pre-interviews this year

DJDakoo
Kind of a long stretch, but does anyone know how many IMG candidates are interviewed at each school?
KennethToronto
Kind of a long stretch, but does anyone know how many IMG candidates are interviewed at each school? Don't know about other schools, but at UofT, quite a few IMG candidates were interviewed. Very tough pool.
CharmingHedgehog
was told ottawa receives usually ~ 100 apps, and interview ~50. For all elective students at Ottawa, they will pull your rotation evals when they process your application. So on electives, should try to work with at least one person on the interview committee. There are 5-6 people on the interview committee, and each of them reads apps from a particular area of the country.
DJDakoo
Don't know about other schools, but at UofT, quite a few IMG candidates were interviewed. Very tough pool. What do you mean when you say "very tough pool"? Are most IMGs qualified anesthesiologists already practicing in different countries?
CharmingHedgehog
What do you mean when you say "very tough pool"? Are most IMGs qualified anesthesiologists already practicing in different countries? The ones I've met were Canadians educated in other countries. Not sure how many foreign trained practicing anesthesiologists enter the match this way. They may also have fellowship opportunities
