kumz87
Hi guys, I am a Canadian studying abroad and I am applying for a Family Med residency in Canada in the 2014 CARMS match. I am trying to figure out which references to use and I hoping I can get some advice. I did my Family Med rotation in Canada, and both my rural and Urban preceptors are happy to write one. I also have asked two of my supervisors in Australia, one is a psychiatrist and the other Infectious diseases specialist, who have both agreed. Is it better to have a mix of backgrounds with my reference letters? For example, one in Fmed (Canadian), one in medicine subspeciality (Aus) and one in psychaitry? Thanks! Lactic Folly
Going for the strongest letters should be your overriding principle. If they are all strong, you can send them all if there is no limit. Check the CaRMS program directory for the requirements of the programs you are interested in. In your case, it may be good to have some Canadian letters.

At this rate you have four to choose from, I would do both Canadian ones and which will be the best of the Australian ones.
