justletmein Posted June 27, 2013 Report Share Posted June 27, 2013 It depends on the year, but it can be quite competitive because there are very few spots available. Obviously any electives that touch on MSK will be useful (i.e. sports med, ortho, physiatry, rheum). Also, there are plenty of ways to practice sports medicine without doing the fellowship. I would have to look into the details, but I am pretty sure you can even challenge the certification exam without the fellowship once you have completed a certain number of hours working with teams.
