IM and CIP

Recommended Posts

I have heard that most IM program directors are cold to the idea of Clinician Investigator Programs (CIP) within the core 3 IM years because they lose a member of the team for that time period. From what you have heard, is this rumor true? Are there any IM programs that are proponents of CIP?

The CIP program is available after fellowship (after PGY-5) or during. Its a program meant for individuals who are in the tail end of their training who are establishing a research+clinical focus, or for most who undertake the program, meant for people to obtain more credentials to get a job.

In surgical fields, it works a little differently as many programs have inbuilt research years midway through residency where a CIP program might fit nicely e.g. in General Surgery or Neurosurgery.
