Dany
GPA R3 year doesn't exist in Quebec and, from what I heard, GPA is not recognised in Quebec (with few geographical exceptions, maybe) For English Canada, I can take BC for example, GPA is accepted in small centers (Sechelt, +/- Squamish?) or +++ remote centers (Fort St-John etc). It is almost impossible to find a GPA job in bigger centers like Campbell River, Cranbrook, Kamploops, Kelowna etc. I know a bunch of GPAs who do both normal GP work and anesthetics. Lifestyle and money are both good.
Arztin
Ah, I guess that's why I couldn't find any GP-A ES programmes on the Qc schools' websites. Thanks again mate.
Corie
I was interested in this as well. I met a GP-Anes in Shawville QC, who now only does full time anesthesia. It is recognized.
Arztin
I was interested in this as well. I met a GP-Anes in Shawville QC, who now only does full time anesthesia. It is recognized. In what kind of setting does he practice? And what does he do? surgery or pain?
KennethToronto
Looks like you're just starting med school (McGill 2018?) I think you should explore different specialties, but my opinion is that if you really want to do anesthesia, you should do the full 5 year training. There is very little overlap with family medicine.
medisforme
There is a gp-anes in chilliwack, bc which is a lot bigger than FSJ or Squamish.
bloh
It's likely that they are all grandfathered into the system.
