nick
Assuming you live near the C-train, how useful/necessary is it to have a car to drive to teaching sites that aren't at the university (doctors' offices, hospitals other than the university hospital, etc.)? Or is transit adequate for that?
No1Dr.Ozfan
Practically a necessity. I made an infographic to show why:

LostLamb
you may never have a rotation out of SHC....i know several people who recently made it through clerkship without a car/driver's license. However, having a car makes life so much easier!!!
APYYT
Car > public transport in every city across Canada except for maybe Vancouver/Toronto. ^my opinion, not a fact.
BTJJ
Car > public transport in every city across Canada except for maybe Vancouver/Toronto. ^my opinion, not a fact. I would include Montreal as well. I believe the metro covers a greater proportion of Montreal than the Toronto subway does of Toronto. The new English hospital is very close to the Vendome station and the new French hospital is close to Berri-UQAM. A number of the other hospitals aren't too far from metro stations or are a short busride from a metro. Of course if you live off the island or are doing shift work, a car may be more convenient. CJ12140
I lived in the Marda Loop area near Mount Royal University, and managed with transit for 1.5 years, before clerkship started...and then only really needed a car for my rural rotation. It's easy enough to transit around from central Calgary to 3 of the 4 hospitals (South Health Campus being the exception). Carpooling is usually an option, as most people will have vehicles.
