I can't remember who posted this (and whoever it was, thanks very much), but I found this link to the Association of Canadian Medical Colleges from a another thread on one of the forums today. It's has composite stats from the past few years for applications to Canadian med schools, divided up by # of times applied, age, province of residence, etc... as well as application statistics for each of the 16 Canadian med schools. Check it out here if you're interested.

Madre de Dios, the legends are true! That's quite the stockpile of info, and those stats would answer a lot of questions. :)

For convenience, here's some numbers from there I thought would be interesting this season - the total number of offers given out (take the total number of applicants and subtract the total not offered - that should include both first-round and waitlist, right?) for the number of first-year spots, the "success rate" percentage (offered and registered, deferred or declined) for all applicants, with in-province and out-of-province in parentheses beside. Hope my math was right...

Memorial 79 for 60, 12.2 (25.5 IP, 6.2 OOP)

Dalhousie 110 for 90, 32.3 (36.4 IP, 23.8 OOP)

Laval 339 for 154, 24.6 (26.4 IP, 5.6 OOP)

Sherbrooke 290 for 124, 21.0 (22.1 IP, 24.7 OOP)

Montreal 227 for 122, 17.2 (18.4 IP, 3.8 OOP)

McGill 159 for 132, 29.8 (55.5 IP, 6.0 OOP)

Ottawa 160 for 119, 7.6 (8.0 IP, 6.2 OOP)

Queen's 139 for 82, 8.8 (9.4 IP, 7.8 OOP)

Toronto 256 for 185, 14.7 (16.6 IP, 10.1 OOP)

McMaster 178 for 128, 5.8 (6.7 IP, 3.2 OOP)

Western 203 for 123, 11.7 (12.4 IP, 9.3 OOP)

Manitoba 115 for 85, 21.4 (37.3 IP, 11.4 OOP)

Saskatchewan 79 for 60, 29.2 (62.0 IP, 17.8 OOP)

Alberta 141 for 128, 12.6 (19.9 IP, 5.5 OOP)

Calgary 197 for 106, 15.2 (22.9 IP, 9.1 OOP)

British Columbia 143 for 128, 16.4 (20.1 IP, 6.8 OOP)

(from 2001-2002, the latest info on that ACMC stats page)

Edited for spacing and silly errors

Silly me... it helps to press "clear" when you use a calculator... don't use one much anymore in med school come to think of it. :)
