mon
I've been accepted to Queen's and waitlisted for UofT OT! I was wondering if anyone had any insight into financing this degree? Speciafically I'm interested in the aviliblity of TA opportunities and paid research opportunities, as I already know I'll have to take out OSAP. Also I've been having a hard time finding out if fieldwork is paid or not? Cheers!
PTwinterlo
Fieldwork would be unpaid as far as I know. Because we are learning from our supervisors in a major way. Ideally we will be helpful but also are a big pain in the butt for them in terms of having to double check everything we do.
PTwinterlo
Generally financing comes from student loans and line of credit (unless someone has personal savings, or parents have money). I don't think there is much if any internally available funding. And we are recommended not to work because of the demanding nature of a professional program. Unsure about TA opportunities... I figured it would be unpaid, but I also applied to Public Health programs as a back up and I know their fieldwork is paid hence the question. PTwinterlo
Oh that makes sense! I think because PT is a regulated profession might be why it's unpaid as opposed to public health where you could more easily contribute during a work term. (Ie you don't need to have a professional designation to work in public health but we can't practice as a PT or OT without it)
