How is the student life? And finally, if you live outside of Ottawa, how easy is it to get home/do you have to stay in the summers? Thank you so much! -D- Posted March 6, 2019 Report Share Posted March 6, 2019 Honestly it is a great school in terms of the atmosphere amongst classmates. Everyone is pretty chill and having a life outside medical school pretty much just happens naturally but it is a lot of fun. You get to know so many people during frosh and throughout the year. The program feels solid, good mix of didactic lectures, case based learning (small groups of 8 students usually with a physician leader), anatomy/radiology/histology on Thursdays in first year, physician skills development which gets us into the hospital seeing patients right from the 1st/2nd week. Quite a few students in our class travel back home often, some do every weekend. There are carpool facebook groups and students coordinate with each other. You don't have to stay in the summer, but there are research opportunities in the summer in Ottawa with various MD's, joint opportunities at places like Shanghai that you can do, as well as some other cool programs or just staying to do some clinical electives. m_jacob_45 Posted March 6, 2019 Report Share Posted March 6, 2019 Just thought I would add that travelling home becomes much harder in clerkship (since the hours are long and you work weekends not infrequently depending on the rotation and often need weekends to study/ keep up). Most lectures are posted online. Most lectures are not mandatory to attend. CBL is mandatory as are SIM (basically social medicine class) and PSD (physician skills development).
