anesthete
Hello all, A quick question now that CaRMS online is open. Can you have the same referee write 2 different letters - one specific and one generic? For example, if the referee is based at a given program / department, can they write one letter which supports your application to THAT school in particular, and then a separate letter which generically supports a broad-based application to all other programs? Thanks
Bcemslayer
I think you can, my guess is you just enter them into the referee section twice, one with the specific program, and the second being generic

Wait, what about specialty tailored letters? I thought people ask for a general letter and a specialty tailored one? Or is it too much to ask? Lactic Folly
Yes, referees can be asked to provide more than one version of their letter - however, as said above, these are aimed at specific *disciplines* (or generalized to all fields), rather than aimed towards a specific *school*. I've never heard of a reference letter being tailored for a particular school. Not sure how much it would help - if your referee is connected to the program of interest, it would likely be more effective for them to put in a good word for you directly with the powers that be. Of course, your personal letter should be tailored to the program of interest.
