BruceWayne
Hey guys, I'm just trying to gauge if I'm going to get a scholarship for students in the top 5% and top 10% in the Science faculty, and was wondering if anyone knew a ballpark of the averages needed? I know it changes every year, but a ball-park estimate would be very helpful! Thanks!
iwh333
I'm going to guess ~90%. I had a 85-86% the past few years and I didn't get anything from UBC. Just my guess though.
zenith92
Is the scholarship OP mentioned assigned automatically to the qualified students or is there a separate application process?
iwh333
OP, is this the Wesbrook by any chance? If so, nominations come out around early Aug I believe.
BruceWayne
I think it was the Trek, or something, but it's one where you don't have to apply or anything.
apache
i got 3.88 one yr and i just missed out on scholarship given to top 2.5 percent… i was in arts tho… prob higher in sciences Hey guys, I'm just trying to gauge if I'm going to get a scholarship for students in the top 5% and top 10% in the Science faculty, and was wondering if anyone knew a ballpark of the averages needed? Mithril
I got the $1500 Trek scholarship with a GPA of around 89%.
Economist
I got the $1500 Trek scholarship with a GPA of around 89%. Hi, is Trek scholarship based on overall average or the average for that particular academic year? Also is Trek scholarship for top 5% or top 10% ?
Mithril
It is awarded to the top 5% in each faculty and based on the average for that academic year.
murphy303
I'm going to guess ~90%. I had a 85-86% the past few years and I didn't get anything from UBC. Just my guess though. I had 97% and 94% in my last two years but never got the scholarship. I think there might be a minimum number of credits to get it...????
Economist
Google search! EDIT: Just a question, how many people receive these awards? There are I'm guessing around 1500 to 2000 Science students per year, meaning 75 to 100 students? I didn't know there were 100 students with over 90% avg in each year... wow Trek Excellence Scholarship eligibility is evaluated based on grades and records from the previous year. Students must have registered in at least 27 percentage-graded credits and need to be continuing in the same faculty or school. Notification starts in mid-July and continues into September. Economist
Anyone hear anything about TREK yet? I just found out one of my course grade went up by 2%, changing my overall AVG in 2nd year by ~.2%. I don't know if that'll make any difference but I heard acceptance start in mid july until september...
Wachaa
In the past it's been the end of July (Like the 30th), or early-mid August. And you'll get an email.

I guess the re-grade won't be taken into account by then.. It'll at least take like a month until my grade changes on SSC...

C_tm
I got it in mid August. Check the message center on ssc, there might be an offer there. I didn't get a notice by email but it was there on the ssc.

Mine is 90.7%.. and I thought that would be enough, but I didn't get any message....
C_tm
A little over 92%, but that's for 32 credits so they may have calculated it to more than that for best 27. Your average is pretty high already. I think you'll get an offer soon. I highly doubt a lot of people get over 90%.
