Are we supposed to include research projects for which we volunteered in this section since the heading of this section includes "Research". My sense is that we should include research-specific awards, but not research projects, which would be better suited for the volunteer section. Right?

You can do either. I personally put all research related activities under research (whether paid, volunteer, and whether or not I got a poster/oral presentation/publication). I would recommend doing whatever will help your application more i.e. if you are lacking in research, put it under research

In this same section, is it sufficient to put "see transcript" for awards that can be seen there, or should a contact person also be provided?

If it was indicated on my transcript, I just wrote "see transcript". I didn't provide a contact person.

 

*Edit - I did that for OMSAS, I'm not sure about Dal though?
