throwawayparanoid
Hi everyone. I am a PGY2 General Surgery in an Ontario medical school. I have heard a lot of rumors about how ICU fellowships are getting more competitive than before and it is making me a bit nervous about applying when I have heard of very competitive applicants from more traditional specialties (Gas/IM) getting rejected this year. Any ideas on the truth about this and why this trend is happening? Besides electives, is there anything else I should be doing?
gangliocytoma
Isn't there a lack of jobs in CC? Why would people wanna rush into it?

I heard that jobs are opening up more so than before and it's become the norm to practise in your base specialty for 1-5 years while waiting for an ICU job while doing locums to keep up your CC skills. It is still very hard to find a critical care job
