Tozzwang
Hello, I'm a first year biology sciences student at UdeM. I entered the program in order to get the best grades possible to switch to Medicine since I didn't perform as well during Cegep (I finished with a Cote R of 31,2) and I was wondering if anyone who went through this whole process would have any major tips that would help me during this baccalaureate. Thank you!
spicegirl
Hey! So I did the same UG, but at Laval University and finished with a decent 4.0/4.33 GPA (first semester with 3.3 vs last semester 4.1). I would suggest to NOT make Q cards, as you'll mostly loose a lot of time doing them and way less time learning them. Instead, I would advise to practice by explaining the key concepts, just as if you were giving the class. This will help you figure out what is easy for you and what needs deeper understanding. This strategy will also help during exams, since the questions will likely be open questions. Find a really reliable and fun friend/ study partner that has classes with you to do the explaining thing together. That's how I got the best grades. Also, we were able to have a conversation around some concepts and that helped tremendously. Find someone that has the same motivation as you, you don't want to be the only one working and explaining. This is also a good motivational tool! INTEGRATE instead or LEARNING BY HEART. Biology makes sense, so once you understand the basis, it's way easier to learn the specifics. Lastly, if you need help, seek it. There is always some students willing to help, or if you have the money, find a tutor that can help you with the most difficult concepts. Let me know if you need other ressources! Best of luck!
