batmanisthebestsuperhero
Is it possible to have a life as a staff internist? How much of a pay cut would I be taking? Is it possible as general internist? Which subspecialties lend themselves best to this. Would like to have option of working harder when i want to, to make more money, but on the whole, would like to work about 4 days a week and be able to take at least 1 month of vacation every year. What's possible? From an IM PGY1 who is realizing I actually want to have time to spend with my family.
Edict
You can easily have a life as a staff internist, you choose the weeks you want to work. There are internists who work 3 months of the year and relax and travel the world the rest. Some don't even live in Canada anymore.
realMD
If you do GIM, you can work anywhere from 1-7 days a week. have privileges at however many hospitals you want. Pick up admissionist shifts at whatever schedule you want. Only work weekends if u want. you can bill easy 30-40k per month working busy 4-5 overnight shifts (only work Friday nights eg) And take the whole month off.
