Guest scrubbed
Hello, Wikipedia provides a brief explanation of the white coat ceremony. The Journal of Medical Ethics has postive and negative views of it. A response to the criticsm can be found here. (Sorry, I'm a bit of an ethics geek.) At U of T, we do not have a white coat ceremny per se, but during orientation week last year we did gather as a class and heard speeches about the privilege and responsibility of embarking on a career in medicine from the faculty. We also recited a non-denominational oath prepared by upper year students. I thought it was a good experience, though as the contrarian pointed out, it was a little tough to put in context given our knowledge at the time. At the same time, it sparked further my interest in examining the professional side of medicine both inside and outside of class.
Guest studentz
The formal ceremony is kind of nice in that the Oath is contributed by classes ahead of us.
