Guest smooth operater
Hello guys! I first want to say I am not here to start up an argument on which profession is better. Both professions are really different. It's like comparing apples and oranges. I really respect and have interest in both professions. Just like me, I am sure some of you (not all) actually considered both profession at one time. So, It would be nice for you to share why you choose Med over Dentistry? if you choose Dentistry, why you choose it over Med? Again, I don't want this thread to end up in a debt on which profession is better. I havn't yet any shadow dental or med doctors. I know I can't just make my decision based on other ppl's opinions. It all comes down to personal choice. So, I don't really want too see other ppl commenting negatively on other ppl's reason for their decision. It will be interesting to hear what experice and thoughts you guys went through when you faced with this dilemma. Plz share!
Guest s sadry
hi just very generally..i think both professions require many of the same personality attributes. both require working in a similar environment...and in either you'll be dealing with patients. i think being a dentist is like being any other specialist...so what it comes down to for me is that...teeth don't really fascinate me as much as other areas. i personally have other interests that i could see myself pursuing..ie: pediatrics or cardiology. but in all other regards i think they are very similar. and dentists are important figures. good oral health can sometimes translate into good health in the rest of the body. for example...dentists can play a role in detectin the onset of diabetes. ultimatley i think that various specialists work together to ensure the health of their patients...and i look at GP's as the relay station... they diagnose, they often have to refer patietns to specialists, and they support. if ultimately you enjoy working wiht ppl and have an interest in the health of others..i dont think you can really go wrong

Guest threeputt
Dent is kind of like surgery - every day! Too much pressure for me heheh. Also remember that dent is much more privately run, and can be a little more cutthroat in the real world re: finding jobs, running clinics etc. Dent is like a surgical specialty - without 5 yrs of residency! Also, the hours are generally more relaxed 9-5ish or mall hours, but usually 8-9 hr shifts. And dentists aren't usually on call.
Guest walton1
Hi, I couldn't understand why anyone would pick dentistry either until I learned head and neck anatomy. Very interesting stuff. I think oral-maxillofacial surgeons and orthodontists (both dental subspecialties; OMF guys need a DDS *and* an MD now these days) have the coolest jobs. In medicine you'd get to know head & neck anatomy well if you did ENT or general surgery, or maybe radiology or rad onc. wally
