Guest mydream88
Hi folks, non-med student here !! I was wondering if someone could tell me why neutropenia is a symptom of peritonitis. I am aware that for some viral infections white blood cell count can decrease (though I don't know WHY 8o ) but I would expect that for peritonitis, there would be an increase in white blood cell count, especially if sepsis occurs? any thoughts, mydream88 :\ added thoughts: is it perhaps because all of the white blood cells are 'out to fight' so their count is low in test results

A 78 year-old lady came in for a routine regular check of her chronic hypertension. The nurse had recorded her BP earlier at 124/82. Just for practice, I decided to take her BP again myself and was shocked to get a reading of 270/100!! I thought I had made a mistake but the doctor confirmed it was correct and immediately doubled her dose of captopril. What's scary is that the nurse probably never even bothered to take her BP and just wrote whatever she thought, putting this patient in extreme danger! With my limited experience, I didn't think a systolic pressure of 270 was even possible...so I'm curious to know what are some of the highest pressures that you all have seen?
