Whoa,

There's an exercise in latin/greek prefixes/suffixes for ya eh?

Anyway, I kinda posted this to lure you in Ian. (hehe - evil laugh). I was wondering if you were able to place in an ENT residency, and if so, where?

And if not, what are you doing next year?

Anyway, just wondering, how did the rest of the UBC class do in the CARMS match? Was CARMS a "CARMAGE" this year for UBC?

Are the "competitive" specialties still in high demand?

And how do you go into forensic medicine? (Ie, become chief medical examiner or coroner of a city? I hope it's not through pathology....)

Not sure about the forsensics, but I can tell you that this year, across Canada, tons of people went unmatched. At UBC, there were 12 or 13 that didn't match. Alot of people were going for specialties. Also, alot of people at McGill opted to apply for English residencies, thus increasing the competition. Ian can give you more stats than me. I do know there were at least a couple from UBC that got ophtho, and a couple with ENT.

Wow - the competition must be pretty stiff this year.

I heard CARMS is like applying to med school all over again.

Since such a high # of people didn't match this year, will they be able to enter the first round next year?

Does the amount of competitiveness also have anything to do with them opening first round of the match to canadians who have done med school in the US?

why did all these mcgill grads decide to go for english residency? that wasn't the case before?

Even though the languange of instruction is English, many McGill students are francophone and in the past year a HIGH percentage used to apply to the "francophone" match for their residencies. With the recent pressure tactics and serious tension between specialists and the government many decided to apply to CARMS who wouldnt normally have done so.

Perhaps with the newly elected government this wont be a problem in the future? who knows?

Hey Medicator. Thanks for clarifying that. I had no idea why francophones were applying to CARMS in such mass numbers this past round.
