Guest ltha
Hey people. So I'm going to be going through the next application cycle, and already I've got a ton of questions! Anyways, I was just wondering if anybody knew a little more information about the Biochemistry requirement. I am planning on using a half-year Introduction to Biochemistry and a full-year Cell and Molecular Biology from the University of Toronto for the biochem prereq. Would these be okay, since they seem to cover the topics listed under the UBC biochem link? Also, since the Cell and Molecular Biology class was not offered by the Biochem department, would I have to send in the course syllabus with a week-by-week outline or would the admissions office just ask me for it later if they have any questions? Thanks a lot for any responses, and don't worry, there'll be a ton more questions to come in the future!
Guest anfieldangel
I transferred to UBC from U of T midway through 3rd year, and had therefore completed most of my prereqs at U of T (was in Human Bio specialist program). I went in for advising with UBC Med, and they had a sheet with the courses at other Canadian universities that they accept as prereqs. They said that the biochem I had taken at U of T wasn't enough and I would have to take biochem again (same material) at UBC. I don’t know if they still offer this advising, but it would be something to look into before applying. Or you could apply early, and they'll assess your application earlier, and you would have a chance to rectify any deficiencies before the deadline (at least that's how I understand it). Good luck!! Guest ltha
Thanks for the reply, I figured I'd have to contact admissions in the end anyways to find out for sure. I guess I was just trying to see if anybody had an easy answer out there! I just e-mailed them and asked if those courses would work, but I don't anticipate hearing back from them for a while. I'll post whenever I get news.
Guest ltha
In case anybody's interested, I got my reply back from UBC. They said that my combination of introductory biochem (BCH210 at U of T) and Cell and Molecular Bio (BIO250) is enough to meet their biochem requirement.
