I didn't see this post until now, we went to Jasper for the long weekend, but I also wanted to suggest some pubs for anyone else who may be interested. As an alternative to Whyte avenue, the Sherlock Holmes downtown on Rice Howard Way is good, and they had a good live music act a few friday's ago. BoDiddly's (I think that is how it is spelled!) in Millwoods Town Center is also good for live music, and I have seen great live music at the Commercial Hotel on Whyte avenue as well, although just so you are not taken by surprise, the clientele looks very biker-like! I've found it to be a friendly place myself, though.
