Should I buy stuff to last me into residency/practice? Or should I get a "learner's" set now and buy new equipment down the road? Please respond with your advice. Guest Ian Wong
Which school are you going to? Those med students could probably advise you best. Definite buy's: Good stethoscope. Probably should buy: Tendon hammer Purely optional and probably not necessary: Diagnostic kit with otoscope and ophthalmoscope Definitely not necessary: BP cuff If you provide a list of stuff you're on the fence about purchasing, we could probably help you pare down that list significantly. The above is just a super-brief list. Don't bother buying stuff "as an investment" for your practice some 6-9 years down the road. There'll be all sorts of opportunities to pick up stuff cheaply as you get closer to that goal. No sense sinking big cash down for something now. Guest UWOMED2005
. . . and then pay more interest on your Line of Credit for the toys you bought. I agree with Ian - the stethoscope is the only truly necessary thing. I also carry around a tendon hammer and a penlight, but everything else is usually available in the clinal exam room. Guest cheech10
Hi everyone, I was just wondering if anyone has any experience with the NMS, Blueprints, of First Aid books for the Internal Medicine clerkship rotation, and what they think would be an appropriate supplement for the MCCQE Notes. Thanks.
