Guest hesam7
Does anyone know how long it takes to get an MD/PHD degree? and do medical schools give special considerations to MD/PHD applicants? Thanks
Guest peachy
It typically takes 7-8 years to do an MD/PhD program, depending largely on the school you attend. Generally, you need to be admitted to the MD program separately, so if what you mean by "special considerations" is "are MD/PhD programs backdoors to being admitted to medical school", the answer is no. Guest Kirsteen
Hi there, There is one instance (or at least there used to be) of one school in Canada making a special exception for MD/PhD applicants--UBC. Again, I'm not sure if it's their polcy anymore, but out-of-province applicants to the UBC MD/PhD program were assessed by the MD program in the same manner as in-province applicants. That is, the in-province file score cut-off was used for these out-of-province applicants and not the significantly higher OOP file score cut-off. If the MD/PhD program is of interest to you, as is living in BC, then you might wish to check out the UBC MD/PhD program for the latest information. Cheers, Kirsteen
Guest TKP 123
or you can apply to the MD/PhD program once you get accepted to the MD program.
Guest Kirsteen
Hi there, Most Canadian schools are only too happy to permit a medical student interested in research to apply to their MD/PhD program. Cheers, Kirsteen
