Microscope

Can anyone tell me if we will need (required vs recommended) to purchase a microscope? A friend offered to sell me her used one at a discount.

I can't speak for Calgary, but at UBC, buying a microscope is about the biggest mistake you can make. With the proliferation of digital slides (either on disc or online), as well as books like Junqueira and Wheater's, there should be absolutely no reason to buy a microscope unless your school doesn't provide them (and I think most schools do, if they have a formal Histology course) and absolutely requires them.

 

I would strongly hold off on purchasing the microscope unless someone at Calgary Med tells you completely different.

You do NOT need to buy a microscope.

 

What you will need eventually are a stethoscope and a reflex hammer, but you won't need them immediately and you might want to see what other people are buying before making a purchase.
