advice for surgery?

Hi,

I was wondering if you any of u med students can help me out with this...

I have a sister who needs ovarian cystectomy because she has an ovarian cyst and it is about 9*8*7 cm, and its rather huge causing many problems namely "flooding" and anemia due to heavy blood loss.

 

She also has hypertension since she was young and is on meds for that. I am wondering if anyone has come across this procedure or know of it and risks involved with hyptersion and anesthesia, and any other information you may have about this.

Secondly, can anyone tell me if you lose one ovary, can the other one still be functional? in terms of reproduction adn hormonal balance?
