Internal medicine in Alberta and Calgary

I heard the IM programs in Alberta and Calgary are fellowship funded for 5 years.

Does that mean a resident is guaranteed to get into fellowship of choice, be it GI, endocrine or cardiology?

Thanks

I was told that at the UofA, although there is 5 years of funding given, a fellowship position in a particular subspecialty is not outright "guaranteed"; but, traditionally, fellowship programs have been accomodating and applicants have ended up with their first choices anyway.
