CutieYellow
I was wondering about that title... Because that's definitely not the case here in Qc city...
ibizascientist
Hey CY!!! Out of curiosity... what is the acceptance rate at UdeL? Cheers Ibiza
Citan
I heard that in-province cut-off is set at 3.35 on 4.0.
CutieYellow
Actually Ibiza, I'm not quite sure about numbers. Statistically, they say that over 1200 people apply to the school. And only about 200 get in. Obviously, they accept a little more than that, due to refusals and whatnot, so let's say, that about 300 people get in. 300 out of 1200... so that makes it what 25% ? I think that would sound about right, because 50-70% is insane, that definitely doesn't seem plausible. How do you find school ? Citan, as for GPA cutoffs, i don't think Laval can have a gpa cutoff because it doesn't work on a GPA system. It works rather on CRU (cote de rendement universitaire) and CRC (cote de rendement collegial). Also, i don't think it has a minimum. It just decides to let's say interview 400 people - it's gonna be the top 400....... CY
Citan
Let me just say this...CRC = WORST GRADING SYSTEM EVER. In CÉGEP, I could get 20 points above the group's average in physics and never get a CRC higher than 30... Yet in french classes, I had six points above the average and got 30... I vastly prefer the GPA system. When schools want a 3.7 on 4.0, you KNOW it's 80% or better...no fancy crap... Oh well, congrats for getting in by the way. You overcame quite a lot, especially with that system.
CutieYellow
Citan, I agree, CRC sucks. Never made much sense to me. When i was in Cegep, think i came out w/ a 30 - but with disparities btw 24 and 38 !! Never made any sense. CRU are even worse - my CRU is different btw each university, sometimes by a LOT! We're not talking little decimals here, but a few full points ! I guess that in a way, each school determines what's more important for them, and ponderates it differently. Also, depending on the program in which you are, that also changes the ponderation, the more 'difficult' the program is, they give you more points... Anyways, so glad it's all over. Not much better though, currently applying to residency, we'll see how different schools perceive me...blehhhhhhhhhhhhhh. CY
Citan
Oh come on, there's no CRC involved with residencies, right? As far as I'm concerned, I better stay away from francophone med schools. I got a terrible first semester (something around 3.2 on a 4.0) and I shudder to think what would my CRC would be for that particular semester. Thank goodness, I didn't get anything below 79.6% last semester.
CutieYellow
No CRC - but more like ponderations of grades, interviews, evaluations, letters of references, letters of motivation... all different from one univ to another. So one *might* care that i got a B in cardiology whereas another will more look at my sucky letter of motivation......or whatever.......ack. I hate application processes. I think i've done enough applications in my life... NO MORE!
Citan
Aye, sounds quite challenging...and I thought being accepted in med school was the worst part. But don't give up, ya hear!
Methodnike
I heard that in-province cut-off is set at 3.35 on 4.0. Completement faux.
bobstar06
have u finished your biochemistry bacc....? and around what number was you CRU with a 3,6?
CutieYellow
J'avais >3.8 en biochimie lorsque j'ai ete acceptee - et en fait, j'avais ete sur les 3 listes d'attente des univ franco (pas applique a McGill - MCATs were borderline so i figured...meh why spend the money - probably a mistake now that i think back).

Bonne chance.
