Guest 007
Absolutely you should participate in extracurriculars. Your GPA is important, but med schools also want to see that you are well-rounded. However, don't do something just because you think it will get you into medicine...do it because it's something that interests you.

Guest Lola Lee Lolo
at many places, without an adequate/competitive gpa your ECs will not even be looked at. People should consider participating in ECs that they enjoy, to give them balance in their lives and not to get them into medicine. LLL
Guest marbledust
at many places, without an adequate/competitive gpa your ECs will not even be looked at. By the same token, if all you do is focus on your gpa you will not be considered a "well-rounded" candidate - which is what every medical school in Canada is looking for. They all have different formulas for granting interviews and offers of admissions. Generalizations are not always true or helpful when answering questions. The best thing is to do some research about each school and find out what they place emphasis on.
Guest Koppertone
My advice is this: keep your GPA above 3.65 if you want to feel "safe" and ensure that you've done enough EC's that you have something to talk about in the interviews and fill out the EC section on the application form (which is usually pretty large meaning... you DEFINATELY need ECs)
Guest coastal79
If you need to study so much to get decent marks that you don't have time to do anything else or to have a life why would you want to go into medicine?
