JimGray
I am sure this topic has been discussed to death...but I will post away anyways. Ok according to the AMCAS Guidebook, it says for Canadian Universities, anything above a 87%+ is treated as 4.0...is that correct? so even if my home school records my 87% as an A (hence a 3.9), my grade in this course, when I apply down the border gets boosted up to a 4.0? is it fair to make such extrapolation from this table? (and im sure u guys know which table im referring to...) p.s. Sorry I know this is a double post...i am just that much desparate
Jochi1543
p.s. Sorry I know this is a double post...i am just that much desparate Yeah, they'll delete it anyway cuz it belongs in the US schools forum.
The Law
It depends on the school. Previous posters have said that Western is: 4.0 =80+ 3.0=70+ 2.0=60+ 1.0=50+ Also, UofT appears to be exactly like the way the school calculates GPAs. 4.0=85+ 3.7=80-84 3.3=77-79 It varies for every school though. DeeDoc
It is my knowledge that AMCAS converts your grades using a weird scale. I was under the impression it went... 80+ - 4.0 70-79 - 3.0 60-69 - 2.0 50-59 - 1.0 0-49- 0.0 It sucks to get a 79, and then drop a full point in your GPA conversion. But, I think this is what equalizes some of the applicants + the MCAT. But if you have all 80's. You are cruising!
The Law
Yeah, but some schools it's different. I think the only way you can get a 100% answer is by applying lol.

JimGray
Different schools, different weightings maybe. but none of the Canadian Universities set their cut-offs for segragating distinct grade categories (i.e. A+, A, A- and so on) at friggin 84% and 87%?!?!?! I am in serious need of clarifications p.s. I go to mcmaster btw

The Law
We should start a collection of conversions per school. That would be a useful resource.
Madz25
Although UofT has both numerical marks and letter grades - for my AMCAS application I only put down the letter grades and my AMCAS GPA was the same as my UofT GPA.
