Kirsteen
what is FRCPC? Also, is it difficult for General Internists to get a job (especially in Vancouver)? Hi there; FRCPC = Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada. As for job prospects, I'll defer to the folks on the board who are more up on the job market for Internists. Cheers, Kirsteen
ffp
It is easy to get a job as an internist in Canada! In fact, most areas have lots of subspecialists, but a lack of general internists! If you're a general internist, you aren't restricted to a big tertiary centre like some of the more highly-specialized folks... so you can work in a smaller town like Lloydminster, Cranbrook, etc. Big cities need internists too - especially those who don't mind attending on the CTU once and a while FRCPC are the coveted 5 letters you get to put after your name once you finish your residency and pass your subspecialty exam. For a family doc, it is CCFP, for a surgical specialist it is FRCSC.
