bayervillager
Hi! I'm wondering if medical students will still be covered under their parents' dental insurance plans during medical school. Unfortunately, I'm going to require some major and very pricey (sigh...) dental work done. Will I lose my coverage starting in September, or starting after I sign off on the admission documents? I'm in third year so I haven't put in an application to graduate yet. My mom is trying to find out for me from her insurance provider in the mean time, but I'm just wondering if anyone who has been in a similar situation might be able to provide some insight. I can get the student dental plan in September, but that plan doesn't provide a lot of reimbursement. Thanks so much for reading my confusing blurb. ccoh
Most parents' insurance plans will cover children until age 25 as long as you're a full-time student. It shouldn't matter what program. If you are covered by your parents' plan, some schools will let you opt out of their's too, saving you a few bucks.
bayervillager
Thanks, ccoh! And in case anyone is interested because you will also be getting major dental work, my mother finally got information from the insurance company and yup, what ccoh said is 100% correct. Madz25
Yes, you should still be covered under parent's insurance - I still am. Also, you should also be covered under the university's health plan even though it's probably not as good as the one your parents have.
