kgmed23
Some circumstances changed and now I am thinking of giving all the schools i want to attend a shot. I was going to begin masters but decided not to. My stats are: OMSAS gpa: around 3.4 (finished BSc this yr) upward trend in marks with the last two years of 3.9 MCAT: waiting for results (sept 12) Various volunteer activities in both medical setting and community setting, one international volunteering experience in 2003, high school football and other sports 2 research positions (one publication, however I was the third author) I am looking at applying to some of the top schools (I know my GPA is extremely low) but realistically, if I knock out a good personal statement would I stand any chance at some of the top schools (harvard, yale, columbia, vanderbilt). I am not too sure how good my MCAT score will be. Thanks for everyone who decides to post an honest opinion.
Madz25
it's getting late in the cycle to apply. your cGPA isn't stellar. if you end up with an MCAT score in the high 30s or more, then apply. otherwise, i'd wait until next year. Madz25
but if she wants to apply to top tier, it shouldnt matter cuz they aren't rolling anywayz tho right? yes but a 3.4 gpa isnt really gonna cut it for top tier...unless u have some crazy amazing ECs/research and a REALLY high mcat score
Alastriss
OP, calculate ur AMCAS GPA, not OMSAS but regardless, like Madz said, there are many people with low GPAs and stellar mcats and they didnt get into top tier, but lets see what ur amcas gpa is regardles
kgmed23
how do i calculate my AMCAS gpa? Is it kind of like OMSAS where i can enter in my grades from each course online and they give me my GPA? UBC doesn't use a gpa system but rather hands out percentages. Thanks for your guys honest opinion. It would save me a lot of money and time.
Alastriss
refer to the sticky thats right at the top of this forum by SONYVAIO
kgmed23
hmmmm UBC conversion scale for AMCAS seems similar to OMSAS scale except there is no distinction between A and A+. So I am assuming it would be almost similar.
