Gib
Hey all! I was speaking to a doctor the other day, and he mentioned that when he went through school residency time for a GP wa 2 years, and for an Orthopedic Sureon was 5. Does anyone know if these times are still accurate? Alternatively, what sort of money is being made during these residencies? Does pay increase the more years you are in residence? Thanks for any info!!
Madz25
Yup, GP is still 2 years. Not sure about ortho.

You can see the salary schedules via one of the links ("Salaries & Benefits") on the CaRMS site. Cheers, Kirsteen
kosmo14
As everyone above has said those are accurate BUT for most residencies today there is more after you completed your Royal College requirements and passed your exams. After residency most people do a fellowship as it is becoming almost unacceptable to just do your residency. So you typically have to add another 1-2 years with fellowship. Even with family med quite a few people do additional training for another year.

There are still quite a few family med graduates who exit immediately and practice. Likewise, there are many jobs available to newly-minted radiologists without fellowships and many people take this route also. Jazzie
Hey all! what sort of money is being made during these residencies? Does pay increase the more years you are in residence? Thanks for any info!! I'm not sure of the accuracy of this but I think it's a bout 40-45 grand annually. It's been a while since I last checked.
