smood
I just wanted to ask about the 8 credit hours some schools need. Looking further they say they need 6 hours organic plus 2 of lab. I understand 6 indicated a full year course... but what would 2 be in that situation? How would a full year organic with lab be counted here? Thanks. EDIT: I also wanted to know, if we don't have a certain pre-req course but plan to fulfill it in the summer before matriculation (By late June early July) how is that indicated on the application? Thanks.
Jochi1543
To designate a course you haven't started/completed yet, you need to check off the "current/future" box. Also, a year of organic with a year of lab is what schools want.
smood
How is the 6 credit hour (Lecture + Lab) requirement different than the 8 credit hour requirement?
Jochi1543
How is the 6 credit hour (Lecture + Lab) requirement different than the 8 credit hour requirement? It's the same.
Madz25
yup i agree with jochi. 6+2 is the same as a full year of organic with lab...or just simply 8 credit hrs.
rankin
yup i agree with jochi. 6+2 is the same as a full year of organic with lab...or just simply 8 credit hrs. He was comparing 6 credit hours to 6+2 (or 8) credit hours. Not 6+2 to 8.
Madz25
He was comparing 6 credit hours to 6+2 (or 8) credit hours. Not 6+2 to 8. my mistake then. thanks. to add...some schools go by 3/6 for the half/full year system others go by 4/8. still others have a mixture ...i.e. 3/6 for non-lab courses and 4/8 for courses with labs. bottom line: if any school wants 6 or 8 hrs of orgo lab, all that means is one full year of orgo with lab. kwasko@dal.ca
Are there American Universities that do not require a full year in organic? Any that accept half a year and half a year in biochem? I see Albert Einstein does. Any others?
Madz25
usually organic chem is a prereq for biochem so even if the school requires biochem u may have to end up doing organic chem anyway.
