Many people mentioned this... Could this be a part of the admission office' strategy? Kind of beginning of an interview with e-mails, apologies, perseverance, good/bad mood... In other words with everything you would face in real life with real people, where there is no on-paper dialogue? Making a right impression even at the first step could be as important as talking politely with a very aggressive patient a several years later. Just my two cents. s.
