parachutes
This section in the secondary application seems weird to me. What business is it of U of A's as to what schools I am applying to? Are any of you guys leaving this blank or not being complete?
Jamer
Yeah, when I first read this I was wondering why it was actually being asked in the first place. Kinda sketchy IMO. I just told the truth.
Jochi1543
I listed all, I'm only applying to 4, anyway. I don't see why they want that information, either, I think it's invasive.
muchdutch
Maybe they just want to see if you're putting all your eggs in one basket or not. Basically to see if you're dedicated enough to medicine to move if need be. Still not sure why they would really need this info though.

Or, it could be just as easily said "To weed out applicants who are not serious about U of A because they applied to 100 schools."
tearless
just be completely honest - the legal agreement with these apps is that you have to be, but you should be as open as you can in the whole process anyway, and this includes the interview... just get in the zone i applied to fairly well every school in canada, plus four in ireland, and i wrote that. i don't think it adversely affected my application, or at least i don't feel it did. i agree it's a bit invasive and might throw you off balance, but you have nothing to hide anyway right? Wut?
Jochi, Contrary to what you may believe (although your skepticism is legitimate), the U of A UGME does not discriminate based on the number of schools you apply to. I know of several classmates who applied to numerous schools (which apparently includes tearless...for all I know who could be sitting next to me in lecture), one who applied to *22* medical schools altogether, in both Canada and the US. If you are truly curious as to why this information is required from you, why don't you just shoot the admissions office an e-mail? It's not like they will be biasing against your application because of a legitimate concern (and it's not like they're taking notes as to which applicants are asking 'dumb' questions). Lactic Folly
Perhaps it comes into play should one receive multiple acceptances? Just speculation. I don't believe such information should count for or against your application. And an aside re: tearless's sig - love the new class name!
Wut?
And an aside re: tearless's sig - love the new class name! I'm just glad that we're not 2010. They are the "Tenderizers".
ericl
Haha how did they get the name Tenderizers? My brother is in that class....
Lactic Folly
I thought it was "Tenderloins"? Maybe they got it changed, lol. They did get a decent looking t-shirt although I had to laugh when I heard the name Sorry 2010s, blame the 2009s.
Wut?
My bad, yes, they are the Tenderloins. Even worse than Tenderizers, if you ask me
tyler582
I'd be unashamed and, frankly, happy to tell them I'm also applying to other schools. It will show them that you are more serious about getting into med school!
vip_138
I'm guessing they don't care about it for admissions, but more just collecting statistics for some reason.
parachutes
ha! there is a character limit so I couldn't even put in any schools in the USA that I applied to...I guess its not lying when you can't fit them in
mandolin
Those character limits are so annoying! I am only applying to U of A and U of C so it wasn't an issue for me, but that is funny.
