saturation of radiologist in Canada

Recommended Posts

It seems like nowadays, major cities like Vancouver are getting saturated with radiologist, where graduating residents are having a hard time finding a partnership-track job, and even harder to secure a job in academics.

Hence most go on to do some sort of fellowship to be competitive.

Others have to go elsewhere or to smaller towns.

I'd like to know what people's thoughts on future job opportunities in rads in Canada.

Are rads becoming like IM subspecialists or surgeons where jobs will be hard to come by in the near future?

Nope. There is actually a huge shortage of radiologists in the country. Mind you, no matter what specialty you decide, you will most likely need a fellowship to be in an academic centre. However, if you wish to work in the community as a radiologist, you can finish your 5 year residency, and make wayy more money than you would at an academic centre.
