anna8
Hi, I'm just curious, is it okay to take a year off before joining the match once you graduate from med school?
Satsuma
You should probably talk to your school about the pros and cons, since they would know better. My understanding is that taking a year off makes it a bit harder to match in subsequent years. But, if you have a good reason, and you never entered the match in the first place, then maybe it is ok (ie. you aren' t in the next years match simply because you didn't match). I suspect if you have a good reason and are prepared to explain yourself in your letter and interviews, probably not a big issue...but talk to your school! justletmein
makes it a LOT harder to match from what I've heard. You would need to have a really good reason to take a year off. It's not like after your undergrad.
blinknoodle
Definitely talk to you school's student affairs. It can be done, and you can match, it just depends which program. Besides matching, there are other considerations, ie. as far as I know, you could have to start paying back provincial loans if you are not enrolled as a student.
