xza
I will be a BBA graduate and I would like to break into the health care field. Background (OMSAS grades, F = Fall, W = Winter, S = Summer): BEng Semester 1 - F (5 courses): 2.7 Semester 2 - W (4 courses): 2.5 BCom Semester 3 - S (2 courses): 3.5 Semester 4 - F (4 courses): 3.53 Semester 5 - W(5 courses): 3.42 BBA Semester 6 - F (4 courses): 2.43 Semester 7 - W (5 courses): 3.26 Semester 8 - S (5 courses): 3.84 Semester 9 - F (5 courses): 3.64 Semester 10 - W (final; 4 courses for credit, 1 course not-for-credit): so far 3.8 for 2 courses) Do you guys think I have a chance? I would have to take an extra year to meet the prerequisite courses (I only took physics/chemistry during Engineering). I don't think I would have a chance with UWO since my strongest semester was in the summer. It seems like I can only hope for McMaster and Queens? dbjones
McMaster and Queens will, sadly, be also out of your reach as well. Both have very high gpa requirements. Your best hope is to come back do extra years and hope to get two years above the cutoffs for various schools around the country. These schools take your best/last two years. Western and Queens are the ones in Ontario. Generally rule is to aim above 3.75. Note that this number fluctuates and is subject to change every year. Please look around the forum to find more information.
Jochi1543
Given that you've been in school for 5 years already and that, as alluded above, you'll need 2 more years to be considered for Queen's or UWO (your only options with a low cumulative), you might be a prime candidate for international schools, if you are willing to take the risk. Hi there, the majority of medical schools in Canada look at your marks in terms of the school (minus the summer) year GPA instead of semesters (unless you did Co-op) So, you would be looking at this: Year 1 - 2.61 @ 90% course load Year 2 - 3.47 @ 90% course load Year 3 - 2.89 @ 90% course load Year 4 - whatever your cGPA ends up being and it will be a 90% course load IMO, you should consider doing another undergrad if you are serious about medicine And you really need to push your course load up to 100% for most schools (i.e. 5 courses per semester) and get that GPA above 3.75 per year Plus you'll have to do the MCAT of course
