Jamer
Is the grad ceremony a complete waste of time? My mom really wants me to go because well, she's a mom, but I'd have to drive up from Calgary/take the day off to do it. How long is it, is it horribly boring, etc? RobynM
It definitely is a pretty long and boring ceremony so it really depends on how much you want to be there. I went because I wanted a teensy bit of pomp and circumstance to mark the end of 5 years of my life, and I did enjoy it. The actual length of the ceremony depends on what faculty you're in. They usually match up the giant faculties (eg. science) with a tiny one (nursing, aboriginal studies) so that it takes about 2hrs. I don't know if they still do it or not, but the faculty of science also had a free dinner at the Shaw conference center the night before the convocation, and I would guess most other faculties have something like that too. So if you didn't want to go the ceremony itself you could always go to that instead. Plus then you get free food!

future_doc
You sound like my mom Moms are so great, they sacrifice for us, do for us and don't say a word of how great they really are. There are so few occasions we show appreciation. This is one of these days. And she will remember it forever!
