zunik
In the Med application, I need to list a couple of academic awards. I know that scholarships is considered an award but what about Bursaries? Are they more of financial aid than "Awards" ?
ontariostudent
If they're given purely for financial need they are not, but if they are at all competitive they are. Eg. Bursary for people with high grades and financial need=award Bursary for people with financial need is not
Guest Shim
Do you think awards for high grades are something adcom looks very positively ? Grades are already calculated in GPA.
Microbiodude
Well some awards are based on both high grades and community service/ leadership (i.e. Millenium Scholarships)...that would be a good reflection because it indicates you can be both a good student and active volunteer simultaneously. Not all people with high grades get awards. Usually awards distinguish those at the top of the class.
Guest Shim
I'm asking this because I got an award for the best marks of my program. However, my program is probably the less competitive program around so it's not that impressive. I was wondering if the adcom would be like : "That's nice !" or "OK, but I got the marks right under." In both ways I'll be writing it. I'm just curious.
ontariostudent
Still impressive. Only one person can be "highest".
