numero0121407
Hello there awesome fellow, Thanks for your efforts first of all! I have a question, my TPR instructor said not to use "obvious" or extreme examples like hitler and whatnot, do you agree?
MCATStrategy
Hey Floweriepot, I will address the extreme and obvious comments separately because I think each warrant a different answer. From my own experience, it is often difficult to come up with examples for prompts because the only way they could be true or untrue is under unique/extreme conditions. In fact, in TPR, one of the dichotomies provided is specifically "wartime/peacetime", and wartime is an extreme circumstance. I don't think it should be a criterion for selecting your examples because it is often those examples that will illustrate your point best. In addition, the farther apart your examples are, the easier it is to create a synthesis to reconcile them. Hitler really does illustrate the point nicely. However, he will be a more common example. In that case, what will set your essay apart will have to be the details. There is a big difference between someone who is very vague about him swaying the emotions of the German people compared to someone who is very detailed in their elaboration. In the video, I talk about the Treaty of Versailles and the conditions it created for the German people. Additionally, I talk about his tone, mannerisms and word choices. Basically, using common examples is okay as long as your comments and discussion are not average and go well beyond that of other people. Thank you for your questions and continued support .
