The referee would need to know you well or have your CV and sufficient information about you, to advocate your acceptance strongly and with credibility. It is unlikely that 2 profs. will know you all that well, and you are prob better off to take one of each. With respect to whic prof, go with your gut, but ask the one you select if he/she is prepared to write a strong LOR. If there is any doubt, move on to prof. 2.
