costar
Hey guys, I've been hearing that finding jobs in competitve specialties has been getting much harder recently with the economy. i.e. nephrologists, pathologists, and neurosurgeons who are 1 to 3 years out of residency and still without jobs. A friend told me the best way to get a job is to have your place of residency create a job for you. Any comments on this? Does anyone know which specalties are the worst right now for the job market? What advice would you guys have for those of us matching into competitive specalities? i.e. doing a grad degree? Thanks a bunch!
national
my impression is that the job market fluctuates from year to year, province to province. it's also highly variable depending on whether you want to practice in major centres or the periphery. i've heard many times over the the years that neurosurg jobs are difficult to find, but i can't back that up with anything. nephrology, no idea. pathology? i think we are pretty desperate for pathologists across the country. for individual specialties, you'd be best off asking current residents or recent graduates.
